Glide Like a Pro: How to Perform the Manuals Glide On Roller Skates
Hi Skaters, this is such a great move and always gets lots of attention at the rink. Here I break it down as its one of those moves that needs a lot of co-ordination. Make sure you've been working on your manual drills before attempting this as it is a little tricky.
Have fun

    Hi Katie!! Thank you so much for your videos, they have helped me so much on my beginner journey. :3 I'm having trouble with my rolling one foot on the left. Specifically, I'm always veering slightly to my inside edge (to the right). I have tightened my trucks probably TOO much to test, and I'm still veering a little. I've been trying to focus on putting my weight over my pinky toe, and it's getting a bit better... but do you happen to have any additional tips or drills on improving this imbalance? Is it possible something is also wrong with my left skate mounting/truck/cushion that is compounding the issue?

    So that progressed from "an intermediate move" to "an intermediate-to-advanced move" in the space of a few minutes. I dread to think what an *actually* "advanced" move is. I suspect it involves having three legs.

    Sorry if im a bit late. I went on your website to look at your recommendations and I noticed some of the skates had plastic plates. Is that because certain plastic plates are ok? I've been skating for a few months and I do have a pair of Moxi beach bunnies that i use primarily. But today in a charity shop, I found some leather skates with plastic trucks. I got them because they were £15 and I wanted the light up wheels to put on my bunnies but I would like to have them as a backup pair too. I only plan on skating fowards around my local park and indoor rink. No tricks, just skating. I'm also only 100 lbs. Will these skates I found be ok to use as backups? Thanks for taking the time to read this

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie День тому

      Definitely not plastic trucks. They’re not safe for an adult. Plastic plates are ok but best avoided if you can. Nylon reinforced plates like sunlites are fine but not plastic plates. .

    For me the biggest confidence booster was going on a challenging bumpy pavement that was still save to skate on, because once I drove there and back any other surface filled like the smoothest concrete ring. I of course made sure to know how to balance, stop, pivot and all the things to keep me save. Going on a uneven surface that is still consistent in it's challenges was a great way to build my confidence in skating outside and I would recommend!

    With adjusting toe stops, how much space should you leave between your toe stop and the ground? From an artistic viewpoint. I want to do artistic jumps and spins and I don't know how low I should have my toe stop. I get that it's probably personal choice, but I'd like to have a starting point :)

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie 5 днів тому

      For jumps they need to be lower to the ground. I used to have mine super low. I could just get my hand flat between the ground and the stopper. If you’re used to them high be careful as you can trip over them.

    Learned it in a few days of persistent falling. All i can say is: i did first turn and stop right away. And only when i was confident in turn-stop i went forward with turn-skate backwards. The funnyest part is i actually love starting it with left leg (i do everything with right and only this thing with left) coz i have less control of it and am safer when it needs less attention.

    So, I've been doing heel manuals all wrong for the last six months or so. Looks like I know what to work on next time at the rink. I have one concern, though: I have no idea if you have hyper-flexible Achilles tendons, or whether it's just that girly high-heeled skates are that much easier to get heel manuals on (see 6:33 for getting your front wheel about half an inch in the air, or more), but I have reason to doubt I'll be able to get into a heel manual position with my knee *that* bent. If your foot is at the same angle to the horizontal as mine (in my converted Bauer ice skates), you're on a heel manual, I'm on all four. On the other hand, I'm doing just fine with toe manuals, and I've got toe stops the size of bin lids. About all I need to crack with those is swapping between left and right in front without putting all four down on one side.

    • @sandb1867
      @sandb1867 8 днів тому

      I lock my knees when I do heel manuals, which makes it easier to raise my toes off the floor. It took a fair bit of practice and some falls but I can scissor, shuffle, slolam, pump and wiggle on my heels -- all stiff legged. One foot heelies are next!

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie 8 днів тому

      I would say just try and keep a soft knee. Locking your knees in skates is never a good idea. Keep some flex.

    I used to roller skate in the 80s as a teenager, especially after watching the movie Xanadu. I remember spinning and jumping.I was a good skater. I have been skating again for the past 6 months; however, I skate gingerly and have not tried spinning. I am 57 and I am scared stiff of falling and hurting myself.So, I just skate and still have fun.

    Hi there. I would love to know what skates you are wearing and what plate and wheels are on them.
